the waxes in the pantene might be more to blame for your oily roots and dry ends than you realize (though yes, flat ironing isn't going to help). Try to find something that hasn't got ingredients ending in -cone, or try a diluted vinegar rinse to clarify. and only use conditioner on the ends, so you can get the moisturizing formula you need.

Definitely back away from the Pantene! I've recently switched to sulfate-free shampoo and -cone free conditioners, and my hair looks and feels better than it has since I was a kid.

Right now I'm using Giovanni 50/50, which I found at WalMart. I've only used it twice so far, but I like it! I know they have a few other Giovanni shampoos that are sulfate free. Burt's Bees shampoos are sulfate free, too, and WalMart carries those, as well. I know L'Oreal has a sulfate free line, and if you go to Target, the Yes To Cucumbers is another Sulfate-Free. Tigi has some sulfate free shampoos, too. I really only shampoo once or twice a week, though, to clear chlorine out of my hair, and wash with a cone free conditioner (Yes to Carrots or VO5) the rest of the time.

As the others have stated: Stay away from the Pantene.

I stopped using drugstore shampoo & conditioner... but I'd recommend Suave's Professional line. I'd check out their website, Total Beauty, and Makeupalley.
