Does anyone know of something that will safely stain my hands red for the night? I was thinking food dye, but I'm really afraid of it coming off on my clothes and my friend's furniture

Almost all film noir movies were black & white, so I'd suggest some grey facepaint where you're not covered? Just to add to "the look"

Beets will give you a dark pinkish color. However, let me tell you that I bought this tube of fake blood last year and dripped it all over myself. It didn't go anywhere. And it actually lightly stained my skin in places for a day or two. The worst thing was it peeled slightly by the end of the night, but I had put it on at around 3pm.

It was a random cheap no-name tube I bought at Rite Aid or Walgreens.

What about wearing gloves and staining them? I feel gloves would be period appropriate as well.
