I went to New York & Co the other day and bought a very beautiful gray suit. My boyfriend helped me pick it out but we couldn't find a shirt or shoes for me. Most of the shirts were what I'd deem club wear. My boyfriend also recommended that I wear black wedges and not heels. Are heels acceptable to wear to an interview? It depends on what kind of job you're applying for, but if it's in an office setting I would definitely *not* wear wedges, as they're less formal than heels. I'd shoot for a heel in a modest height that you can walk naturally in--the clomping around in 3.5-inch heels look does not convey competence.*

*Of course, if you have a ballet-dancer-esque stride in 3.5-inch heels, more power to you. Most people don't.

It'll be for assisted living. From what I've heard they're very lenient with what the employees can wear while on the job. I just want to look as professional (a.k.a competent- in my mind) as possible :)

do not wear wedges to an interview. the only time that would be appropriate would be if you were interviewing at like charlotte russe or something, if it's a legit job, the wedges are going to look too informal.

Go for low heels or flats. Simple black wedges, if done tastefully, can also be okay but it depends on the situation.

I wouldn't wear wedges either and to answer your other question, JCPenney is good for tops like that, or a big department store like Macy's. I was in Macy's yesterday and got a plain sleeveless lightweight sweater to wear under jackets to work, and it was on sale for $12!

To echo what everyone else says, no wedges. They don't really look professional.
