So Harriet Miers withdrew. Well, I dont blame her. Not that I like her. She wasnt gonna get confirmed. But I cant help but thinking this was the plan all along. They put a woman in, make her an expample of who the worst choice could have been and now they will slip in someone they've been scheming to get in from the beginning. From what I read, the problem is that no one wants to be Bush's nominee, because they know they'll go under the microscope. So they found Miers, who has very little bad stuff in her past... but no good stuff, either.

There is a flip side to this though, and the ramifications will probably not be felt for a while. What does go under-reported at this point is that the Bush administration has appointed more minorities (including women) into more high ranking govt. positions than any other presidency. Bush is literally being handed a whole case of munitions here.

It will go something like this, "Hey, we tried to fill the Supreme court position with a woman, but Capital Hill wouldn't let it happen." All that people will remember is that Bush nominated her. I guess old Roves bag of tricks isn't empty after all.

I don't think she had any business being there in the first place, whatever the motivation was. But I tell ya what, as far as women in politics, I'm all about Hilary for president. Fuck people who don't think a woman could do it. Could anyone else really do a worse job than George W?
