yeah - southern utah rocks. Zions, Brice, Ceder Breaks, Antelope Canon (in Page, AZ). Then if you go farther east in southern utah, you can hit Arches, Canyonlands, Goblin valley, little wild horse canyon... plus there's slot canyons all over the place.

tel aviv (+ jerusalem + dead sea) was exactly like that when I was there but they all said it would be miserable in a month or two.
I think this is (in the northern hemisphere) kinda universally the wet season, so you may have a hard time with dry? dunno though.
