Have a Merry Fraud and a Happy New Card

Dec 22, 2013 22:04

According to my credit card statement, I bought someone a new iPhone for Christmas (from an online store in the US, as far as I can tell). You'd think I would remember spending nearly $1000, especially as it was just a few days ago.

I'd better call the bank tomorrow.

Hmm, where did you use that card recently?

I buy a lot of things online and many places store my credit card details (Steam, Sony, Element14, Coffee, Dog food, etc...).

It may have just been used on a fake card with a randomly generated number, though. I hear that happens.

There was a spate of credit card skimming at parking meters a while back, too.

That could have been it... I have used it at various parking meters!

Ah that sucks. I'm surprised they let that through, they're usually pretty good at spotting unusual spends. I got a call from the credit card company once asking if I had really tried to buy some credit at a casino in Iceland.... "Yeah we didn't think that was you."

Well, I do often buy things from overseas so it didn't look completely unusual.
