Costume Fun Begins

Dec 28, 2013 20:12

For my roles in my upcoming choir/theatre show, in which we sing selections from "Wicked" and "The Wizard of Oz", I need costumes of things I do not normally wear. Finding this stuff in second-hand shops and costume shops is proving somewhat fruitless and I'm not spending hundreds of dollars on real clothes for which I won't use again. However, I ( Read more... )

Thanks! It's fun to do this, and I have a lot more energy to do it now that I've lost this weight.

My beard will be the same throughout, since Fiyero makes a reappearance in the second half as part of a background scene for another song. It's the costume that will distinguish us, but I'm not sure I'll even have time to change clothes.

While people are pushing for a wild-beard colour like purple or blue, I'm leaning toward a red and black (white sideburns, red cheeks, black goatee, something I can wear and let grow/wash out after the show without being too extreme for business. No-one in my office has a non-standard hair colour. I'd certainly be the only man with variegated styling. We're going to find out by next week, since the show two weeks away!

And just now reading this, your show is set to begin soon (if it hasn't already). How did the coloring turn out?

We decided not to bother with colouring. The people who were going to help had scheduling issues, and the cold snap and bad weather interfered with getting out at all to get the supplies needed. We'll be putting some spray-in/wash-out gold glitter in my beard to add to the other shiny parts of my costume.
