Doctor Who Season 9 - brief thoughts

Almost the whole season was in two parters, with one standalone episode and one three parter. The titles were very clever. And almost the whole season is about Clara' dying or threat of her death and the Doctor willing to bend time and mess everything to prevent it. And it is about Clara pretty much becoming the Doctor. Magician's Apprentice/Witches Familiar

I loved these episodes. I agree, Missy is a great use of the Master and she is definitely the best modern Master. I very much enjoyed her elaborating on her and the Doctor’s relationship, which was very much as I have always envisioned it. I also really liked the dynamics between Missy and Clara.

Zygon Invasion/Zygon Inversion

I was very happy to have Osgood back and even more happy that she never revealed if she was the human or the Zygon Osgood. She stood up to the Doctor and not many people manage to do that!

Sleep No More

At first I couldn’t even recall which episode this was. I agree, it was the weakest of the season- weakest by several seasons, in fact.

Face the Raven/Heaven Sent/Hell Bent

I loved all the three last episodes. Lots of amazing things happened and even though I feel Moffat has overused the trope of people not being completely dead, Clara’s end still felt very satisfying to me. I love the idea of.

I can completely understand that since it happened a lot for me with other shows. With Doctor Who, I think a lot of enjoyment depends on seeing prior seasons, especially the New Who (2005 on).

Our feelings on series 9 are pretty similar I think :) You couldn't say that Under the Lake/Before the Flood were bad episodes or anything, but I was pretty unengaged by them as well, I think that the base under siege episodes with the guest casts just aren't really for me? And yeah Sleep No More was just really boring, the opening two-parter, and then Face the Raven/Heaven Sent/Hell Bent, those were really the highlights for me
