parental visits

Mom and Dad are coming down tomorrow (July 1 being a holiday up here) to see the house.

I was surprised when I called last night and Dad gave me a reasonably clear itinerary. I actually know when they are arriving, how many days they will be here, what they plan to see, etc.

Enjoy the visit with the parents. How long are they staying? I can only stand my mom for about 4 days and then I am done. Erik has about the same limit. Are they staying with you or in a hotel? THat can make a big difference.

They are camping, actually, which is something they love to do. They have a fold down camper and there is a nice place 20 minutes from our house.

I have found my parents somewhat easier to "stand" when Dave is with me. They seem to be on better behaviour with people they don't know well.

That sounds like a good arrangement. The "better behaviour" phenomena hold true for both my Mom and Erik's parents too. Erik's mom is aleays lecturing him on the phone, but has never done it in front of me.

It's not always true in my family...my mother bickers with my brother's wife rather often. Usually that is over something to do with their kids though. My mother seems to assume she knows best about all aspects of parenting, though I must admit she's often right.
