I pulled into the parking lot at work half an hour early (probably a record), and with it still being dark out, I diverted to stroll across campus to see the Christmas lights that are up on the big spruces in front of the bell tower ( Read more... )

Very cool. Cardinals are probably my favorite birds. I like robins and red-wing blackbirds, but cardinals are just so. . . RED.

I remember seeing one for the first time at our feeder when I was 16. I remember how brightly it stood out from the snow. His mate, on the other hand, was pretty but much more subtle in colour and harder to see.

They used to be more of a southern bird but have moved north from people feeding them.

thank you for clarifying it wasn't a clergyman, I couldn't understand why one would be peeping so.

One time, years ago, I was telling someone about a "cardinal who visited our house" (meaning the bird) and he thought I was talking about a Roman Catholic Prelate. I had funny pictures in my mind of a priestly guy with a crozier taking food out of our bird feeder.

Really, although I imagine it wouldn't be the first time a clergyman was trying to get someone's attention from behind a bush in the park.
