A new Prime Minister. Actually we haven't had a walrus win yet, though it may be possible if he got an endorsement from Anne Murray. :p

So a plurality wins,.no matter what the total? Wow, that is scary.

I take it Canada does at least use popular vote, not some sort of electoral vote like the US?

Well, it's not surprising that a plurality wins in the sense that we have more than 2 parties, but our Prime Minister dopes not win by popular or electoral vote, and he is not the same as a President. To put it in american terms:

Prime Minister = Speaker of the House of Representatives

Seat = Congressional District

Therefore, the PM is the leader of the party who can win the most districts across the country. In each district, the winner is whomever wins more votes than any other party, and so a plurality of votes can translate into a majority of seats. It can make for a very dis-balanced system.

Well yes, but we use pieces of birch-bark and pine cones as ballets, walruses can vote, and the biggest issue this election is how to protect our parliament buildings from melting due to global warming. :p

You know I bet Bush might actually believe that!
