seeds

It all came together well. I got my Stokes Seed order in the mail yesterday, and I had bought all the supplies - soil, light bulbs, mini-greenhouses, etc. - a few days before. So I started three packages of seeds growing last night. Will do more types later on in the season ( Read more... )

Grandiflora Petunias (F2 Hybrids, mixed colours), Trailing Lobelia (mixed colours), and Striped Leafed Coleus.

I also have some Marigolds, Basil, Mimosa and Coriander seeds to start, but they can go a bit later because if planted too early they outgrow the pots by planting season.

You should be able to see them in this larger pic:

You can be very profound sometimes.

And yet an hour after planting them I was laughing at South Park....

This might sound odd coming from me, but South Park can be quite profound sometimes, too.

I'm was sure South Park would be met with stern, disapproving Pager-glares, much as you do when I mention certain articles from The Onion.

It's a trick Mrs. Krogh taught me (she raised 500 or more plants for her garden every year during the winter). The bottom heat under the packs helps simulate the warmth of the sun and deters the growth of molds and things.

I have always planted morning glories directly outside, because i read they don't transplant well. If you do start them inside, start them in those little biodegradable peat pots that you can put directly in the soil once the spring comes.

Thank my teacher, the late Mrs. Marjorie Krogh, master of cultivating seeds and plants.

The top of the refrigerator is also usually a nice warm place for starting seeds. I should order some seeds; I intend to get a community garden plot this year. It's more than 10 years since I've grown any flowers or vegetables from seeds. I need it.

Thinking along the lines of what you said, having children is also a continuation of life. It's a comforting thought.

You can borrow my Stokes Catalog if you like, and order right from the website.

I only have a balcony for gardening so I just grow a few things for my planters, and I will likely give away much of it to Dave and my parents.
