Just because you're gay doesn't mean you're not a cunt

Apparently, a (lesbian) journalist for the Guardian wants the B and T folks out of LGBT, and claims that she wants nothing to do with us. As a bisexual who has experienced biphobia from gay people in the past, this disgusts me. I don't personally know any transgender people, but her condescending and hateful opinions on them are sickening to anyone ( Read more... )

I wouldn't give her the satisfaction if I were you. Almost certainly what would happen would be-

I know. It's so sad that within a community that suffers so much from discrimination, some people still feel the need to belittle each other. Stones in glass houses and all that.

Agreed!
You'd think that people who are in similar situations (in that sense) would understand how it feels.

Why do we make such a big deal out of people's preferences? Seriously, it is NOT A BIG DEAL. Who cares if your straight, bi, gay, lesbian, transgender, whatever-else-there-is-cause-I-get-confused-after-this-point as long as you personaly are happy and healthy? If you are in a relationship, as long as your partner treats you right, I have no problem with what gender your partner is/used to be.

Well, as long as you understand "Don't flirt with me" means "do NOT, under penalty of me not speaking to you, flirt with me". Though I tend to have that problem with guys more than lesbians...

True story: Guy walks into the place I work, looks me over and says, direct quote "Oooh, you sexy! I'm gonna go home, get some money, buy you and make you my wife."

Ug.

I flirt with everyone, but it's just my way of chatting rather than an actual proposition. In fact the only people I don't flirt with are the one's I really like ;)

Julie Bindel wants everyone in the gay community to be just like her and have exactly the same world view as her, which sounds dull if nothing else.

See, that's a different kind of flirt. That I don't mind (mostly because I am an unconscious flirt. I seriously don't know I'm flirting O.o)

And, yeah, that does sound dull. JUst live and let live. Sheesh.

I agree totally- what a twat!
I never joined my uni's LGBT because being pansexual and pangender I'm not really fully anything- I'm not fully homosexual or fully transgender, and I always worried about being seen as too straight for the LGBT, and it's people like this Julie Bindel who propogate those sorts of views.

At least the comments all disagree with her.

You'd think that we'd all manage to at least be civil in such a small community. But apparently the Julie Bindel's of this world want the gay community to closely resemble the Aryan Nation with "Gay Purity" and all that shit...

I don't think many people will take her, or her writing, seriously from now on.
