Best laid plans.

I had all these awesome plans to actually cook dinner tonight. Cook as in, go to a cookbook, find a new, possibly complicated new recipe and make it. Maybe something with more than just garlic powder as a spice. Maybe something that involves a microplane and zesting! Something that would take up a lot of pots and pans and make the whole house ( Read more... )

It starts with a thought...

Maybe tomorrow. :)

Meanwhile cooking hasn't even crept into my list of things I need to do before I'm 30. I think I need some livejournal friends to show me how fun it is. (Are you motivated by pressure?)

Interesting question. I am motivated by certain kinds of pressure. Like...I'm having people over to my house in 3 hours, holy crap, I better start cleaning! Or, this project is due at work tomorrow, I better finish it! I am less motivated by pressure like, "Show me how much fun cooking is!" Because, let's face it, I can pretty easily lie about that if I have to. : )

But honestly, I do think cooking can be fun! I enjoy cooking for dinner parties, or holidays. It's the every day, cooking for just me that is boring but I'm trying to do it more because it's so much cheaper than eating out.

When you say cooking isn't on your list....do you mean like, fancy recipe cooking? Or basic, every day cooking? And doesn't Anthony cook? If you have a guy that cooks, thank your lucky stars and leave it off your list! : )

Hmmmm, okay I see that your pressure needs some kind of embarrassing or real life consequences for it to be motivating. I will have to think of a way to spin my needs to pressure you in that way. ;)

That makes sense. My first year of law school I "cooked" for myself all the time (quesedillas and spaghetti) but it was not a joyous time by any means. I have never made a "meal" for anyone who wasn't a boyfriend because my inability would never allow me to volunteer myself to do that. Maybe that's the type of pressure that I need!

I mean basic every day cooking. Like I literally couldn't make scrambled eggs. In theory I would like to move my skill level above that of the average frat guy, in actuality, as you pointed out, I hate cooking and my boyfriend loves it AND is great at it so why bother?

At least, in the end, you ate. :-)

Edit: Ok, technically we don't know that...

I did, in fact, eat the knish. And then some popcorn. A very nutritious dinner.

Approximately a white meal. Did it snow? Is there a causal link? In which direction?
