Why Bowie?

I know I've not been posting much lately. Well, at all. School (which was finally over the end of June), work, personal stuff I'm sorting through which has been drawing my attention away from things like Livejournal and fandom and so on. I'm processing some things which are really big to me, and it seems I haven't had much mental energy left over

I can't really help you--all I can say is that while I don't hate Bowie, I never understood why he's supposed to be so awesome, either. I like Life on Mars because I associate it with a good show, but the rest of his music just seems pretty uninteresting to me. I listen to it and go ... well, that's boring. And then I usually skip the song.

I think I like him more than I like his music. I own a lot of his music, but it's a bit like owning an encyclopedia set--it's something you have in your house, yeah? I like what he stands for and what he's done for music, and I like the idea of glam in general, and I like his independence.

Also, I'm very fond of his voice, but not all the time. He's a lovely crooner, and I know I go the opposite direction of pretty much everyone on the planet when I say I prefer his newer or more delicate stuff...

I also really like Scott Walker, who is very elusive and equally deep and soulful, as well being a friend of Bowie's (and a huge influence on him, which might help you understand a little bit more about David himself). Take a listen if you're up for it...
