Campaign Exercise in Science Fiction

Spotted (via Talking Points Memo) an example of science fiction being used in the presidential campaign: a flyer showing... actually, it's a little hard to make out what it's showing, but gasmasks appear to be involved. Anyway, the text is self-explanatory.

Yeah, because Vladimir Putin endorsed Bush, and he's done such a great job keeping his country's children safe from terror, so he should know!

I think that's going a little far. I know that the Republicans are desperate, but I just don't see them resorting to nuclear terrorism in south Florida as a campaign tactic in 2007.

Well, see, their reasoning is that Kerry won't stop Al Queda or capture bin Laden, whereas Bush has a proven track record of... uh... okay, let me get back to you on that.

That's right up there with the "Vote for Bush because, you know, there might be Zombies" thing that was going around. (which I must sheepishly admit tickled my fancy in the same way the Prairie Home Companion faux John Kerry Ad where he tries to make himself look like a "normal" guy by goose hunting did.)
