A couple of weeks ago, I attended a re-enactment event, World War II Days, at Midway Village near Rockford, Illinois. I joined my colleague Roger, who greatly enjoys History Channel documentaries, and his family.

OMG, I have to take my husband to this, he'll think he's died and gone to heaven. (War heaven, anyway) Great pics!

There's a goofy little military museum up over the wisconsin border--its right by the bristol ren faire. The stuff there is interesting but rusty.

My dad commanded a roving antiaircraft gun in WWII, he had a halftrack to tow the gun and carry the ammo. At some point I should try to see one in the flesh.

There was a meet of military vehicle collectors in Alameda a few years ago, and I got a ride in a Kettenkrad there. I just wish I'd bought the Mite RTTY unit that someone had for sale. http://www.rtty.com/development/teletype/mite/index.html

Further thought: I think that's partly why I ended up buying a dual-sport motorcycle.

Ah, the bike is both on- and off-road capable- in my case a BMW F650 GS Dakar.

The gun on the Dodge Gun Truck is a 37mm breech loaded anti-tank gun.

We have WW II reenactors here. I see them at Marching Through Time. Y'all have some serious toys.

As a one-time tracked vehicle mechanic, I look at all that track and think about swinging a sledge to drive track pins. Better you than me.
