Class numbers

My classes have been getting progressively smaller over the years. Gosh, I can remember the days a long time ago, when I had over 30 enrolled in a beginners class- it was a big studio, and I was pretty sure not every single person would come to every single class, so I let it pass. But now, I'm happy if I'm getting my 6 student minimum ( Read more... )

I've only been teaching for 6 years but in that time I've seen class numbers go down hugely - even the amount of people who enquire vs those who come along for one or two classes has gone down.

The spare change in the pocket now goes towards essentials rather than enjoyment, and I don't think that anyone will feel as though you personally don't care about them.

I know, times is hard, and I'm honestly grateful that people are willing to spend their hard-earned cash on learning to dance. I've taught these ladies for years, and I feel our relationship goes a little bit beyond Tuesday nights.

Sigh, tell me about it. For me five is a HUGE class. Two or three is normal.

Of course not advertising doesn't help. Better do some of those damn flyers and posters again... and look at advertising in an actual publication or on actual line.

Your comment reminds me though that it's a good idea to plan some social events, things like my hafla to be and maybe some video evenings once a month. It's a start and a way of making the community more... community-like.

I am so sorry. If it helps, you are not alone in the wider world of belly dance, and even dance in general from what I can see. Things here are horrible for class numbers.

10 is like a dream class these days.

Yeah, I know. I'm lucky to have two healthy classes. We've had to cancel most of the other Adult Education BD classes this term. There's only my two plus one other class that are surviving. I am grateful, really I am.
