+ first, to get out of my system: oh my god I hate homophobes so much sometimes. SO MUCH. agh agh agh. in World View class last Friday, the question was "What happens when an individual's rights trump the community's rights?" and a girl answered that "It's like with homosexuals! Their right to be homosexual shouldn't trump the community's right to ( Read more... )

I think I probably gave them extremely incredulous, 'WHAT THE FUCK' looks, but they totally had that coming. it is possible that some of the restraint was due to my incredulity as well. hee.

All the arguments against homosexual rights seem to boil down to "Ew it's icky" and "God says so" and "God says so, ew it's icky."

EXACTLY. this is precisely what I pointed out! specifically the 'god says so' part. man, I really dislike this girl and her mom. I've never liked them, and they've both been annoying me the whole World View class so far, and this was just the straw that broke the camel's back. I was TICKED.

theoretically. Unfortunately, I'm taking a Christian World View course, which means we're learning all about how only our world view is right, and how everyone else is obviously trying to take over the world, or some such bullshit. I pay just enough attention to do the homework and give WTF looks to the rampant idiocy in the room.

That's ridiculous. They both need a good, hard slap. Good for your teacher, though, that she pointed it out. It's easy for people to say that majority right trumps minority right when they're part of the majority and are on the giving end of discrimation instead of the recieving end.

yup! I kind of love my teacher - she's fabulous and really open-minded for a Christian, and has a tendency to be one of the two Christian adults I can talk to about my own views without worrying that they'll shun me forever. D:

oh, I wanted to slap them. I came -thisclose- to just walking out of the classroom, but decided that wouldn't be effective.

I'm glad you have somebody you can talk to about your views. :) But I'm going to have to say that I disagree with the phrase "open-minded for a Christian" because that implies that Christians are more closed minded than other people, and I don't think that's the case. I think certain Christian groups tend to be more vocal in their close mindedness, but I don't think that Christians as a group are any more closed minded than any other group of people. For example, when it comes to talking to people who are openly atheist, even people who are my friends, I'm always wary because of some really bad experiences in the past with atheists, specifically, who were as closed minded about their own beliefs as the fundamentalist Christians (or all Christan, in their view) that they claimed to hate ( ... )

yeah, that was probably a hasty statement, but it holds quite true in all my experience with Christian adults. the great majority of them are incredibly close-minded, and the rest tend to be fairly close-minded too. it's frustrating for me, and I tend to get pretty angry about it, so it's a personal 'AAAAGH' thing I guess. but if I'm being honest, I find most people close-minded. My online f-list is the most open-minded group I know. ;D

I'll have to try not to phrase it like that, thanks for the note!

yeah. it would have felt nice to just smack them, but then I would have been being just as rude as them. Can't have that!

SJA FUCK YEAH.

Also, you should have given those two A VERBAL BEATING. Homophobes make me furious. But, on a lighter note, this entry is about homosexuality and your mood icon is... Caspian in the closet! LOL FOREVER.

I KNOW! SJA is AWESOME. Clyde! Luke! No shortage of really cool girls saving the day! the entire thing is so fluffy and pretty and saving-the-day-happy-ending that it just makes me HAPPY. I need happy endings sometimes too! and I love how much Sarah Jane and her kids try to help the aliens, too. it's lovely! (see, I don't watch Torchwood almost at all because - wow, unrealistic much?)

see, the thing is, they are both so completely rooted in their 'GOD MUST BE RIGHT' thing that no matter what I say they won't care. it's frustrating! I tried to get them to see that they were being hypocritical, and so did my teacher, but they just went 'LALALALA' and kept being merrily ignorant and FRUSTRATING. *headdesk* I'm just going to avoid them and/or be reasonable at them from now on.

But, on a lighter note, this entry is about homosexuality and your mood icon is... Caspian in the closet! LOL FOREVER.
... I totally didn't plan that! hee! BUT LOL FOREVER IS COMPLETELY ACCURATE.

GR. I used to be really good about calmly and rationally arguing with homophobes and I just can't do it anymore, I get to mad. So yay for you being calm and not yelling and/or hitting anyone!

...Also I'm pretty sure that we don't actually have a right, as a group, "not to be associated with" people. I mean, like, I think that usually winds up being unconstitutional?

Yeah, I just. What was she even thinking? It's totally unconstitutional, and I've no idea whether she was even using her brain then. *facepalm* Being calm about this is good, but admittedly ridiculously hard.

How is NaNo going?

It's why it's so much easier to do this stuff online, I think--you can walk away for a bit.

AHAHAHA. Um, I'm behind?
