The pain's not lessening any, nor becoming any easier to manage as far as Gwen can tell. Sleep's still the order of the day, but while her bouts of consciousness are short, she's much more coherent today than the day before. Speaking's easier because she's learned what causes more pain and what doesn't. Sometimes Peter is there when she comes to ( Read more... )

Chase was still getting the hang of the crutches, just shifting on them and learning how to go fast, fast, fast, like any guy trying to master an object. He made his way into the back, his wrist wrapped loosely at his request.

"How's my favourite patient?" he asked, heading to the bed and leaning heavily on the crutches.

Gwen blinks up at Chase, and then carefully lifts her hand to wipe the dampness from her cheeks. "What happened to you?" she asks, brow gently furrowing in concern.

He was getting used to hopping and dragged over a chair with one chair as he hopped like a little bunny rabbit (with better hair) and dragged it over to sit down in. "Apparently, just because you set up a fire and lots of armed people, dinosaurs will still eat you for lunch." He lifted his foot to show her the bandaged ankle. "I hope he got food poisoning from me," he muttered vindictively.

"How are you feeling?" he asked.

"Everything hurts," Gwen answers honestly, her voice rough from disuse. There's a pause as she watches Rob, and then without warning her chin begins wobbling and she's crying again. "Th-thank you," she sobs between winces.

Jack had peeked into the clinic and saw her asleep, so he took the opportunity to go get cleaned up. The only damage he'd received was a couple scratches on his arms from the brush, and he'd gotten worse from sex, so he wasn't too concerned.

Clean and freshly dressed, he pulled a tooth on a ribbon from his pocket and tied it around his neck. It looked ridiculous, but he wanted to make sure she saw it.

He sauntered into the clinic, keeping out of the way as he made his way to her bedside and sat, taking her hand lightly and waiting.

He was more patient than people gave him credit for.

How she knows it's him, Gwen isn't certain, but before her eyes open, before she's even fully aware of where she is, she knows that it's Jack sitting beside her, knows it's Jack that's got hold of her hand. Knowing, however, doesn't prepare her for the surge of emotion that hits her once she's opened her eyes and focused on him.

She knows she's not supposed to be crying, but she can't help it, the sob bubbling up from her throat before she can even think of suppressing it.

"Hey," he said gently, reaching up to wipe her eyes. "You're not supposed to cry. You're supposed to swoon." He smiled down at her, the smile so much warmer than his eyes.

"It's okay, Gwen. You're safe. Got to help in time and you're going to be okay."

"You came," Gwen cries, and her chest hurts, God it hurts, but she can't stop herself. How she wishes she could lean into his touch.

Only then does she notice the tooth around his neck, and she lets out a strained squeak of surprise. "I thought I'd lost it," she chokes out as she stares at him, wide eyes swimming with tears.

After discussing the drawbacks of being KFC, the Doctor had realised that he had nothing for Gwen, who had nearly died. You got things for people who had nearly died.

Ducking outside, he picked some lilies and got a glass from the kitchen to put them in, then came back into the clinic, wincing a little. "Hullo," he said softly, setting them on the table by her bedside.

Why she's surprised to see him, Gwen doesn't know. Perhaps because he's a leader type, and she expects him to be out leading, or perhaps just because of the often dubious nature of their relationship. She's not in shock, she just hadn't expected him... but that's sort of their thing, isn't it?

With flowers, no less.

"Hi," she whispers roughly, her gaze shifting from his face to the lilies and back again. "Thank you." Her lips purse slightly as she fights the urge to cry. She's been told not to cry. Her eyes well anyway.

But he'd come, been, and gone, with the leading. Been taken down a notch or two. He didn't let her see the way he wasn't breathing too hard, not that she would notice. "How are you?" he asks softly, finding a tissue nearby and wiping her eyes. "Did you want a drink of water?"

"Lot of pain," answers Gwen, her eyes instinctively closing as he wipes the tears away. It makes her want to cry again, but she masters the impulse. "If it's not too much trouble," she quietly replies of the water, her eyes opening again.

Tosh was moving slowly when she came intothe clinic. Bandages on her ribs and sparined ankle, brusing and small cuts all over that were making her even more stiff. She'd taken a hot shower and gotten new clothes after seeing Wilson in the rec room medical centre they'd set up, but that was about it. Before she did anything else she wanted to see Gwen, to make sure she was okay.

Gwen staring at the ceiling and crying causes tears to come to Tosh's eyes. It was amazing how close they'd come to losing her. To losing so many. "Gwen," she said softly, making her way to her bedside, lowering herself onto a stool, wincing slightly. "Gwen, I'm sorry." She wasn't sure what for, this wasn't her fault, but somehow it just seemed to be what she wanted to say.

Gwen doesn't know why Tosh would ever be apologizing, but it's got her crying again anyway, a low sob catching in her throat and making her wince. "Tosh," she chokes out, and holds out her hand for her friend to take. "Tosh, I-" Damn it, she can't get the words out, it hurts too much when she's crying this way, and that only frustrates Gwen more.

"Shhhhh," Tosh shakes her head, wrapping her hands around the one Gwen has lifted, pulling closer to the bed. "It's alright Gwen, it'll be alright."

Carefully, Gwen brings Tosh's hands to her mouth, pressing an unsteady kiss to her knuckles. "Thank you," she whispers, fresh tears slipping over her cheeks. "I love you, Tosh, thank you."

Ianto afforded himself a shower and a cup of coffee before heading into the clinic to see Gwen. Tosh had not sounded optimistic when they spoke, and Ianto could see why. After taking care of Lisa for so long, he could easily see the signs of stress and pain on Gwen's features.

Pulling off a bit of clean gauze from a roll, Ianto seated himself beside Gwen's bed, a gentle smile on his features. "Hello," he said softly, wiping at her cheeks carefully. "How are you feeling?"

Instinctively, Gwen lifts her hand to clamp her fingers over Ianto's wrist. She can feel his pulse, and on some basic level it's reassuring.

"Ianto," she breathes as she stares up at him, and her eyes are damp but damn it, she is not going to cry anymore. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," he assured her, voice soft but strong as he couldn't imagine a headache from loud noises would be appreciated right now. "I just needed to check on you."

Ianto gently pulled her grip on his wrist open, transferring the bit of gauze to his other hand as he wrapped his fingers around hers. "How are you?"

"I hurt," Gwen answers honestly and then pulls his hand closer so that she can place a reverent kiss to the knuckles. "I'm so glad to see you," she adds in a quiet murmur against the warmth of his hand as her eyes fall closed again.
