fluff goes boom (pg, warning: don't try this at home) inkvoices March 11 2016, 18:13:53 UTC
The milk run assigned to the newly formed Strike Team Delta as their first mission had an equipment list that, rather pointedly, did not include anything that could conceivably cause explosions, implosions, or any large scale destruction that might endanger civilian lives and SHIELD’s reputation, which meant that when the explosions, implosions, and destruction - far from any civilians, it must be said - started happening Agent Coulson was the only member of the support and observation team who appeared unconcerned.

“She made a tumble dryer explode with the fluff left inside it,” Clint gleefully explained later, his hair still slightly smoking, whilst the Black Widow stood behind him, arms crossed, aiming exasperated-fond-amusement at Clint and glares of suspicion at everyone else. “So that does that mean I get my exploding arrows back for next time, sir?”

I have recently discovered - not be personal experience, I hasten to add - that not cleaning the fluff out of your tumble dryer can cause it to set on fire. I’m sure Strike ( ... )

the world is our arsenal (pg) inkvoices March 11 2016, 23:42:03 UTC
Yay, glad you like :) Hmm, bonus:

the world is our arsenal (pg, warning: underestimation, learn not to do it)

The arguments about whether Strike Team Delta should even be a thing were long and came to few conclusions other than ‘they should only have minimal weapons access until their risk assessment reads less like a goddamn joke, this is common sense people!’

Meanwhile every Agent who’d learnt not to underestimate Clint Barton and all those who’d heard the rumours of how effective the Black Widow was without any weaponry at all attempted to keep their amusement and headshaking to a minimum.

And Director Fury signed off on it because he was curious what they’d do.

He's bleeding and sore but his arms still have strength; Natasha steps into their circle without hesitation, moulding herself to that warm, hard body that feels so much like home. She revels in the feeling of his tongue in her mouth, and for a moment it's like all the doombots in the world couldn't harm them -- until Steve's polite cough breaks the spell, and she opens her eyes to find him staring at them in undisguised horror.

Clint is a man of few words, but somehow he always finds the right one, and this time is no exception: "What??"

(in my defense, this is clearly one of the cartoons)

"Natasha, tell them this makes me look mysterious and dashing, like you said," Clint demands, crossing his arms at Steve and Sam, who completely fail to cover their smirks when they turn to Natasha expectantly.

It's true that Natasha had told Clint he looked dashing and mysterious in his purple-and-gold sequined tuxedo, but now that she's properly knocked back some of Stark's top-shelf booze, her feelings on the matter have... evolved.

"Well... you always look mysterious and dashing to me," she replies, already cracking up along with Sam and Steve while Clint crosses his arms and pouts.

They have a great many things in common, a lot of them obvious -- humans amongst gods and miracles, the best at their trade, weapons made fragile mortal flesh -- but sometimes Natasha thinks that the hidden similarities are more important than that. The way they both grew up in an environment that was hostile and threatening; the resilience they learned from it; the fact that they both know how to use their bodies in a fight in a way others yield their weapons. She watches Clint swing down from his outlook point and angle himself to shoot even as he falls, catches him watching her when she wraps herself around an assailant and brings him down with little else than skill and strength, and she knows he recognizes that too -- poetry in motion, a literal dance with death.

Lololol, the one time run-on sentence come in handy. IDEK.

For those of you who've read Black Widow: Forever Red: why is for guitar players and Americans.

(Because the minute I read that line I went that's a Clint Barton fic, right there lol. Anyone else read it?)
