Fill: Fic. De Nile ain't just a river in Egypt (PG- no warnings)hufflepuffsneakAugust 19 2012, 15:41:38 UTC
Loki has spent more than three hours picking the mortal's brain for information. Midgard is as pathetically defended as he expected, but Agent Barton is surprisingly competent. Loki must remember to thank Director Fury for assembling so many useful drones in one place. Selvig will be of no further use once he’s completed the portal, but Barton has potential as a minion when this miserable planet is under Loki’s control

OMG DAMN THIS WAS SO GOOD. But poor Clint - Tesseract did wipe away everything that was him, or almost everything, didn't it? When he said "Tesseract has shown me freedom from love", I shuddered right there, because that sounds like he stopped loving her. Or almost did.
Oh, but then, Loki. Calculating, mean, volatile, and infinitely envious of people who love and are loved -- I think I feel sorry for him, a little (if he wasn't so mean, he would probably cause more compassion), but even with his brain out of whack, there's more hope for Clint, than for Loki. I love the backstory details for Natasha. So many things in this short ficlet - LOVE. Thank you for filling the prompt!

Thanks :) I was debating about whether to post this or not, but the line "The Tesseract has shown me freedom from love" sold me.
Yeah, I figured Loki wouldn't be capable of the self-examination necessary to understand his reaction. It's hard to write him- he pretty much acts (with style) in whatever way serves the plot for both Thor and The Avengers.
