Author's Note: I'm not entirely happy with this - I wanted to do more, maybe a bit differently, but this is what I got to thus far. There might be another take on it at some later time.

He remembers scrabbling through the rubble-filled streets, nudging here, shifting there, and it not-ever-never being enough. He can still see the flash of Natasha's hair almost indistinguishable from the surrounding flames, trying harder and more in vain to save lives that cannot be saved ( ... )

Oooh - because now I'm wondering, what is the key? Where is the draw? Why, over and over and over again, does death shadow their footsteps? Is it because death is all over the world, in all of time? Or are they the epicenters, the instigation, the sparks that burn Rome and all?

I would not object to reading more on this, is all I'm saying. ;) Love it!

Be careful what you wish for (though at the moment this is way down the list of things to work on, since the OT3 fic and the BB!Nat&Tony fic and the XF AU fic are center stage) - but this originally tied into the whole Fate/Eros prompt thing and it's a big mess and if I go back to it you WILL be getting emails, Lady. Trust me.
