Loki holds Clint’s heart above her head and the blood drips through his fingertips. One - that’s a bullet into a wall, two - a headshot that struck anywhere but, three - a moment’s hesitation. The fourth drop never falls, so Natasha tears out her own heart instead.
She shows it to him, raw and red, bleeding and beating - still beating, always beating, unable to stop even if she tried. She places it on the ground between them, sees the crimson reflection in his eyes, and knows she has him.
She knows this just as knows she’d rip out her heart again and again and again just to keep Clint safe. Just to be the one to tear his heart out of Loki’s grip and shove it, still beating, back into his chest.
