He is full of stupid ideas, she thinks.

1. was not killing her when he had a clear shot.

2. was his delusion that she may have been better off if he had just let her go. He is a goddamned idiot if he thought that would turn out well. Three months down the line, he'd be the one in her crosshairs, she'd have the kill shot, and then things would get messy. Sometimes people forget, but she is still human, and she'd have a hell of a time pulling the trigger on the American with the disarming half-smile that had let her go once. So maybe she'd have to talk him into making a run for it, she'd have to go with him at this point since they don't take well to girls who don't follow orders. They're good, but she'd give them 2 weeks before they're captured, killed, or worse. Or she could pull a murder-suicide, off him, then herself. But what a waste that would be. She could put down her gun and surrender but she couldn't be sure he'd have an offer for her, and then what? Unarmed, facing the guy she was supposed to kill? The same one that couldn't kill her? No thanks.

3. is not so much stupid as it is badly thought through. Of course she doesn't relish a desk job, but life is about choices. What did he expect? She had killed a SHIELD agent or 10 in her day. She knew they weren't about to send her out. She was lucky they offered her a job, instead of keeping her under 24 hour surveillance like her first couple weeks here. And she was prepared for this. In many ways her new job was a best case scenario. Hot showers, reasonable food, bad, but unlimited liquor. And hey, she didn't have to look forward to a bullet in the head the day she outlived her physical usefulness. Oh, and a pension. What else could she ask for?

4. was thinking he was invincible (or, more specifically, thinking he's good at hand-to-hand). He always gets patched up before he sees her, but cuts and scars take weeks to heal and she knows he is not prepared to wait that long before dropping by. She rags him hard when she gets wind of his injuries; maybe he'll learn to be more careful just to avoid her nagging.

5. He's right in a way about this one. They...can't. But not forever, and not for the reason he thinks. Because if she does, if they do, he will be forever convinced it was only because she owes him, and that is the last thing she wants. She's seen the way he looks at her. What he apparently hasn't seen is the way she looks at him. Or he has and just thinks its indigestion. He is an idiot after all. So she's forced to bide her time. But sometimes, impatience overrides rationality, she thinks to herself, repositioning herself in the bed. When he wakes up, he's going to find her pressed up against his chest with his arms around her, and he's going to panic. He'll try to extricate himself, remember she's a lighter sleeper than he is, and gingerly wake her up, mumbling apologies and not looking her in the eye.

Or, just maybe, he'll pull her a little closer, press a kiss to the back of her head, and give them an extra 5 minutes.
