just visited my sis at MIT while i was visiting brandeis. it's nice. you'd like it there. and the booze...well, there's a lot, and nobody gives a fuck. like, less caring about age restrictions, amounts, etc than anywhere else i've ever seen. dorms are nice; there's a sweet hierarchy going on there, so you can basicalyl rule your floor by sophomore year. uh...classes are hard as shit, and you'll spend a lot of time switching between working your ass off and partying it off even more (try this drink called The Jockstrap. it's...potent, to say the least. and guess what you're supposed to drink it out of?). overall, it's very cool. and boston's a great place, too, so there that bonus

Oh I was there for Campus Preview Weekend, so I got the full-up tour of the dorms including going to class, having hot chocolate and cookies at 2:00AM and sleeping on the floor in a French House dorm.

Urm... glad you enjoyed the booze? Not exactly what I'm basing my uni choices but I'm sure you knew that already. I'm more of a hot-chocolate-and-cookies-and-gay-sex kinda guy anyways.

Heirarchy? WTF? What dorm were you staying at, a frat? The answer to that would be no I imagine since you went with your sister but still... heirarchy?... I'm going to college to get away from high school not to relive it. Or middle school either.

Boston is a great place though.

hahaha, it's a funky dorm hierarchy/puppet-control-dealy. what happens is that you find the "right people" that you want to be around in the dorms. then you can try to make sure you have good relationships with the rooming board (thus gaining majority for rooming votes). this way, you basically control who gets to be where. my friend jeremy did it sophomore year, and now he and his friends control the third floor of one of the dorms. it's cool, i swear

CONGRATULATIONS!! Those are both amazing schools and you should be really thrilled that you got into not just one, but BOTH. Seriously, that´s reeeeeeeally impressive. If I were you, I´d go for Stanford, because while MIT has lots of good programs it seems limited to just that: a few really good programs. Stanford on the other hand will give you more options on the off chance that you decide to change your major to something totally different. Still, I like cold weather and cities, so I might go for MIT.

(Stanford´s choir is really good, too.)

heyy you have amazing choices! just wanna mention stanford is gorgeous but the campus is HUGE - you can bike from one end of the campus to the other in 20 mins apparently (and i cant ride a bike so that would be a deterrent for me)

buut stanford also has gorgeous weather. and i dunno, i always feel that more diversity is better because you learn more about different things and you get to be a better, more well-rounded person, instead of just knowing a lot about one subject. then again im not as hardcore a science person as you are.

good luck with your choices and keep me updated! :)

Trust me, it's the most difficult happy descision I've ever made.

Wow, I wasn't thinking Stanford was that much huger. They're both "mid-range" colleges, population-wise, so I wonder if there's a significant difference there too.

I was thinking just that about diversity.

thank you and I will!

well i was gonna mention the size of the stanford campus to you because that could be a big factor, but its been said! like that other person said, the stanford campus is enormous and sprawling so you should deff take that into consideration.

in any case, have you visited both? stop thinking about the pros and cons and just follow your emotions because youre not choosing a school youre choosing your home for the next four years. like when i was choosing i knew i should be looking for academic merit or for like jewish community or this or that or whatever but really i was looking for location and the vibe i got from the school and i just fell in love like that.

i dunno youre such a chipper bumblebee youll be happy no matter where you go!

that said, if you go to california ill visit you constantly and you can visit me :)
