Last night was the worst for the Croup so far. It is suppose to be getting better but it really doesn’t feel like it. Grace kept waking up screaming because she couldn’t breathe. All night long. Her face is all scratched up and red from her frantic thrashing around. Poor Kim. I don’t know how she is keeping her eyes open. Last night was terrible ( Read more... )

Adorable story. Though we have the one in your icon in our living room rather than the Accolade… just to be different. ;-)

Meeting on the Turrent Stairs is my all time favorite, and it, along with my #2 favorite, The Vigil hang over our dining room table. The Accolade is one of my least favorites and we only have a 8.5 x 11 print of it.

We also have about four more poster size Pre-Raph. and then all the Mucha's in the guest room...

Do you know the "trick" of standing your little one in front of the open freezer door to open airways? In Rochester in the winter when T would get croup we're bundle him up at 2 in the morning (on the doctor's suggestion) and take him outside. Similar concept to steaming - anything to get the airways to open.

Hang in there.

I know this is gonna sound weird... But when my little brother would get the croup, my mother would take a large white onion, and slice it in rings about 1/4 inch thick. She would put down a layer of the onions in a heavy sauce pan, then cover them with a layer of sugar. 'nother layer of onions, another layer of sugar, until the onion rings were completely covered. She'd then turn the heat on super low, and put a tight lid on the pot, and allow it to slow cook until the sugar/onion juice made a syrup and the onions were clear. She used this as a cough syrup for my brother (one-two teaspoons at a time) from about the time he was 1 1/2 until he was about 10 and refused to take it anymore ( ... )
