I can't say that it was my favorite (beats the hell out of Chamber of Secrets... bleh), but I can't say that I loathe and detest it as much as I'd like to.
I'm so convinced that this whole thing is misunderstood. Snape has to be on the good side! Think about it: He had a huge fight with Dumbledore about something anonymous and when he actually said the curse, he had a look of hatred and revulsion on his face. I think it's more of disgust of himself for actually going through with it. Dumbledore wasn't pleading for Snape to not kill him, but to do it! He was calling for him the whole time! Snape probably knew that something had to be done that he didn't want, but he did make a promise to Narcissa and Dumbledore probably wanted him to honor that and live than to die by breaking it. Dumbledore was already close to death and probably knew he would be, so this was the perfect chance to go and show Snape's "true" loyalties.
Wow, I sound like such a loser, but I've been so thoroughly trained in literature analysis that I could see any curveball coming for miles...
