Oh man. There's nothing like hoping for some textured, delicious carbs in the form of fried, textured stringy noodles in chow mein and being disappointed. This sounds silly...tried it for the first time not too long ago at Panda Express when I was at Short Pump getting the first haircut I've had in over a year. garlic, oil, ricotta and broccoli rabe pasta,
!!!!! I'm sad that this turned out to be a failure, because the component parts sound so good.

I had Chinese takeout last weekend too. Local place. I... could have lived without it, but oh man, the rice. I don't eat much rice (or any grain) right now, so allowing myself to inhale the entire fucking carton without guilt was glorious enough to ignore the mediocre pork with vegetables.

Carbs are delicious serotongeric love.

I was floored by how delicious garlic, oil, broccoli rabe and penne pasta were at Edo's Squid. It was very sad when I went home, and it turned out to be a disaster. I actually suspect that they used butter, too.

I think I need to try this, only swapping the chard for the rabe (since it's what I bought this week). And I will totally use butter. But maybe not penne pasta, I don't like the texture... What about yours didn't work?

The garlic and ricotta cheese didn't play well together at all. I think using half butter will make a big difference, though. You might want to look at some recipes online and see how they implement it.
