Forgetfulness: A P&P drabble

May 09, 2011 09:48

I just realized that I posted the first drabble in my "Glances" series here, but forgot to post the second! Kind of appropriate, I guess, considering the title. :-) (There will be three in all; I'm still working on the third one.) So, here you go. Rating: K. Disclaimer: Not my characters.

(“The acknowledged lovers talked and laughed, the unacknowledged were silent.”)

Darcy is so quiet that Jane Bennet kindly attempts to draw him into conversation. As he starts to answer some question of hers, his glance falls on Elizabeth, sitting on her other side. She is watching him with something both shy and tender in her gaze, making his thoughts drop from him like so many dishes shattered on the floor.

Realizing that Jane is looking at him oddly, he tries to piece his sentence back together, with a confused notion in his mind that he must ask Elizabeth to be more discreet.

But, somehow, he never remembers to do so.
