In Ch.17 of the book "How to Read a Book", "How to read science and mathematics", there is a quote that I find the most interesting. It was Lavoisier, "Elements of Chemistry", and the quoted text said that a science subject is possible when there are facts, ideas, and words. Without words one cannot describe the ideas. The book "A Tour of C++" is kind of difficult reading. A programming book that is written like essays, I cannot imagine how B.S. was able to implement such a class of writing. It is as dense as a piece of Python code, where keywords are highlighted and cross referenced all to LATER CHAPTERS; and the words in between keywords are highly ( Read more... )

Today at the library (CPL Sulzer branch) there was a small seminar on Gershwin brothers. The speaker was a Purdue professor specialized in information, and apparently Gershwin's golden age was her hobby.

I still remember the days when I was able to give quick answers to a problem. I guess that is what you would call a problem solver. There is always an angle to ask questions, to attack the problem, to divide and conquer, or to eliminate it. If loops did not work, there is recursive.

From dancing class. It is interesting tap dancing and drumming has that in common: between what you mean and what you do, it is often helps to translate it to lip movement (as opposed to hip movement).

I have friends and relatives who loves the book, and who follows the offstage stories of the actors. It only makes sense if the story is Star Trek, where fanfares would do costumes, meet the actors 20 years later and wish for a get together next year (ST Picard).
