Notes: I mostly wrote this because I wanted to have Dean and Sam as cowboys. I got the general idea for this story from a book I read by Lorelei James. I don’t actually know anything about raising cattle or cowboys; and I’m sorry if it’s not accurate. Thanks and enjoy!
Now newly beta’d! Thanks to
moonofblindness for looking this over. All other mistakes are my own.
Flannel Wearing Cowboys
His work-roughed hands grazed over the sensitive skin of her stomach. Her breath was coming in shorter now. He was enjoying slowly teasing her. He wanted her to beg. Scream his name. Come completely undone at his touch.
His lips were on her neck. Nipping and licking, working his way down…
“Writing porn again Cas?” Gabriel was reading over his shoulder now. “You know, you could write something a little more risqué at some point. Your readers might even like it.”
“I have written… something similar before Gabe. You remember that book I wrote about the carpenter and the accountant? There was some rougher… stuff that happened in their bedroom.” Castiel was embarrassed. He hated discussing his work with his brother. Gabriel had always been more… open about discussing sexual things than Castiel ever had been.
“Aww, its ok little Cassy. I won’t let anyone know how you write porn because you’re sexually frustrated.” He leaned close and whispered in Castiel’s ear, “Your secret’s safe with me.”
“I assume there is a good reason for your interruption because you know I have a deadline to stick to.”
“That’s exactly what I came to talk to you about.”
This was not going to be good. Castiel raised an eyebrow as a sign that Gabriel should continue. “You know that new bookstore dad decided to open in the middle of nowhere?” Castiel did know what he was talking about. Their father owned a chain of bookstores in the state and he was planning to open a new one in a small town. Castiel nodded and Gabriel started again, “Well you’re looking at the new manager.”
“Father put you in charge of the new store?” Gabriel nodded. “Why?” It was a good question considering Gabriel had shown little productivity in anything. In fact, he’d been known to be quite lazy and Castiel wouldn’t trust him to take care of a pet fish let alone an entire store.
“That was my first question too. Dad said that I needed to ‘pull my weight’ and ‘do something productive with my life.’ I know I’m not exactly doing anything at the moment, but I’ve got big plans for the future.” Gabriel had been doing next to nothing for the last five years; father had been very unhappy and it seemed as though he’d found a way to make Gabriel grow up.
“You do know that you are thirty-four. Most people have a stable job and are capable of having long-term relationships.”
“Cas, you wound me!” Gabriel had a hand over his heart and he was pouting.
“So when are you leaving?”
“We. When are we leaving?” Gabriel had a smug look on his face that Castiel didn’t like one bit. “Oh yes lil’ bro, you’re coming with me. And before you ask, yes dad has decided to send you along to make sure I have ‘adult supervision’.”
Castiel was shocked to say the least. He never considered that their father would send him along to make sure Gabriel was doing his job. Gabriel never listened to anyone, especially not Castiel. “I hate you for this you know.” Gabriel chuckled and went inside to start packing. This is going to be a very stressful situation.

The sun was sweltering. It was beating down on his neck causing sweat the drip onto his already saturated shirt. Dean would rather be down at The Roadhouse sipping on a cold one, but he and Sam still had to finish fixing this fence before they could relax for the day.
“You know that new bookstore is opening tomorrow,” Sam said. Dean grunted his affirmation; he did in fact know that the new store was opening. He also knew that Sam would visit on opening day because he was a big freaking nerd. “I was going to check it out and was wondering if maybe you wanted to come with.” Dean shot Sam an incredulous look and opened his mouth to speak, but Sam beat him to it. “Before you say no, just know it wouldn’t kill you to actually crack open a book once in a while.”
“Just shut up and give me that hammer.”
They worked in silence until the fence had been fixed. Dean loaded the tools in the bed of the truck while Sam climbed into the passenger side. They drove down the tire worn trail back to the house they shared.
“So are you going to join me or not?” Sam could be relentless when he wanted something bad enough. Did Dean want to visit a bookstore? No, not really. They never even had normal coffee. Just coffee with lots of sugar and added crap that Dean didn’t need fouling up his daily caffeine.
“Look Sam, all I want to do right now is to shower and relax.” Sam rolled his eyes, and Dean would whack him upside the head if he didn’t already know what Sam was thinking. Dean usually relaxed at the bar with booze or women, and occasionally both.
“You’re heading to the Roadhouse aren’t you?” Dean smirked. Sammy knew him so well. “Do I need to come along and supervise?”
“Sam I only got into one bar fight. And Ash totally deserved it.” Sam wouldn’t agree with that statement, but it was totally true.
“I suppose I will have to come with.”
“Don’t sound so put out Sammy. I know you love hanging out with me.”
“Yeah, something like that,” Sam chuckled.
They both ended up at the Roadhouse three hours later.

There was too much flannel in this town. Seriously. Gabriel knew a vast majority of the town ranched for a living, but honestly? Did they really need to wear so much flannel?
Now he really needed to get drunk. No way anyone could make flannel look good.
Not forty minutes later and he was eating his words.
A tall ass, hot ass man walked through the door; followed by an almost as good looking companion. He didn’t hold a candle to the first man. This man looked like his body should be carved in marble.
And damn did he make flannel look good.
All Gabriel needed now was to pounce. But maybe after he’d had a few drinks to calm his nerves. Gabriel’s never landed someone this hot ever and he couldn’t afford to mess up this important chance.
The Bronze God, as Gabriel had taken to calling him in his head, played a few games of pool with Pouty Lips before he was alone long enough for Gabriel to approach him.
“Did it hurt?” Gabriel asked after he grabs a stool next to The Bronze God.
“Did what hurt?”
“When you fell from heaven?” Bronze God laughed loudly and Gabriel smiled in response.
“Can’t say I’ve ever had that particular line used on me before,” he chuckled.
“I promise not to use any more pickup lines if you promise to come home with me,” Gabriel smirked at Bronze God’s raised eyebrows.
Bronze God offered his hand to Gabriel. “Sam Winchester,” he said.
“Gabriel Novak,” Gabriel responded and shook Sam’s very large hands.
“Well, Gabriel, I won’t come home with you,” Gabriel’s face fell. He knew this was a bad idea. “But if you’re real nice, I might let you see me again.” Damn Sam for being such a tease. It was really not fair how Gabriel’s body was already reacting to Sam in such a short amount of time. “Sorry to cut this short, but my brother and I have an early day tomorrow.” He tipped his hat to Gabriel- yes a real cowboy hat. “See you ‘round.”
Sam walked away in those tight Levi’s and Gabriel knew he was done for.
