Art Challenge II + the regular SSBB issue after next (ATTN PLS IS CONFUSING)
The more detail-oriented may remember that a few entries back, I said the next fan challenge will involve illustrators again, but in an "innovative" faculty. XD So here goes--
It's occurred to me over the years that it's unfair for SSBB artists to always tailor their illustrations to the stories, rather than the inverse. So at least once this year we are doing the inverse! Note there is a TBA for the August issue theme in the publication schedule. The theme for that issue (#20) is now PICTURE PERFECT, meaning the illustrations will determine the stories.
HOW THIS WORKS:
If the dates seem spaced rather far apart, it's because there is an issue happening in-betwixt time - in July - which hopefully people are writing and illustrating for as well! For the record, that one is HE BLINDED ME WITH SCIENCE, and involves spaceships, robots, clones, and all other SF tropes loveable or dystopian.
...Lots of dates, yeah. XD; Let me know if anything needs clarifying!

HOW THIS WORKS:
- March 16 - May 23: artists submit illustrations to SSBB via email (maximum of 3 per artist). These may feature previously-created original characters, or may be completely standalone. In fact, you're not required to have characters in your illustration at all, though that might make it more "challenging". XD Include as much background or action in the image as you would like writers to be inspired by. Single comic pages are acceptable. No fanart of existing SSBB stories, though.
- May 24: illustrations are posted to bb_shousetsu, with no context other than the artists' LJ names. Writers ooh and aah; each eventually decides on the illustration she wants to narrate. There is no first come first served. More than one writer can pick the same illustration, although as a overarching principle it's better to spread the love around.
- July 8: issue 20 formal signup post.
- August 21: issue 20 deadline.
