Bang*Bang no. 35, digital version

Feb 22, 2012 22:46

The digital version of issue 35 is now here!

Obviously, this is the first time we've done this -- hence the delay. relvetica has worked her tailfeathers off to make this .pdf collection downloadable and lovely, and now you can have it on your very own devices! Feel free to link, share, and distribute this version wherever you like, as long as you play by the Creative Commons rules on the copyright page and don't change or charge anything.

Also, we're looking for feedback, both good and bad. Feel free to leave comments here or email the SSBB account; be sure to tell us what platform/device you're using so that we can get a good sense of how this works in a variety of contexts. Suggestions are of course appreciated, as are ideas about different features you'd like to have incorporated in a downloadable issue. Every if all you have to say is 'everything looks perfect', we'd love to hear that. And if anyone has experience with distribution through avenues such as the Kindle store or Amazon and would like to give some tips on how best to make this more widely available, we're definitely all ears.

You'll also notice that at the end of every entry in the digital version, there's a link back to the story's original LJ entry so you can tell the creators what you thought. As always, Shousetsu Bang*Bang is a 100% volunteer-run enterprise, and we have every intention of keeping it that way. We don't charge, solicit, or even accept donations -- this is a project that runs on love. As such, if you enjoy something, please: a) tell a friend, and b) tell the creator. The best way to convince the people you love to keep making the things you love is to tell them how much you love it. Love is a very powerful currency.

On a related note: one of our wonderful readers pointed out to us that many authors have been reposting things to Archive of Our Own, and as such has created a collections page for us. If you're an AO3 user who has SSBB or SSBB-related stories up on that site, here's another place to gather them!

We're also looking for someone who would be willing to be maintainer for this collection -- which would mostly involve checking in every so often and making sure nothing's been posted that isn't supposed to be there. If you'd be willing to volunteer for that simple yet important job, please let us know! We'll love you forever, we promise.

Also, we've got issues coming out in March and April, but in May we want to release a digital Greatest Hits collection: an entirely opt-in collection where authors and artists can each submit a single piece that has already been published in an earlier issue. Authors, pick your best work; artists, you can choose either a standalone image or an illustration from a story, whether or not the story itself is included.

If you want to participate in this, please email the account -- shousetsubangbang at gmail -- and tell us which piece you'd like to submit; please put 'GREATEST HITS' or some such in the subject line. (Don't leave a comment here, lest it get lost.)

More details forthcoming as the time approaches, and we'll definitely have more reminders, but this can get the thinking going....
