Sep 27, 2010 17:15

Bayern is after the 1:2 loss against Mainz in a crisis. An interview with the chief executive officer Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

BILD: Belated happy birthday for your birthday on Saturday. Did the team ruin your celebrations?

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (55): "One can't chose. I was out in a restaurant with my family and the co-workers of the management. Louis van Gaal also was there."

BILD: How was the mood of the coach?

Rummenigge: "Louis of course was disappointed because too many players played beneath their skills."

BILD: Van Gaal foreboded difficulties for the start. But the WC is eleven weeks back now. Can the supposedly lacking fitness still be a reason for the bad shape?

Rummenigge: "Passion, will, agressivness and the will to run are mental attributes. All of that has brought us last to the double and the final
in the Champions League. On Saturday the team didn't show that."

BILD: The crisis of the strikers, then the weakness in the denfense and the injuries of Robben, Ribéry and Contento. Does it avenge no that you didn't get new players in summer?

Rummenigge: "We decided that with the coach and stand by that. Robben and Ribéry can't be replaced effectively. And Günter Netzer perfectly analysed this in his BILD-am-Sonntag column: Our national players have to grow."

BILD: Van Gaal also didn't want any new members because he relies on harmony instead of competition. Does that prove as counterproductive now?

Rummenigge: "The coach has this philosophy. And we fully trust in Louis van Gaal. The coach does a great job. It is not him who has to show skills, but the players."

BILD: We still ask ourselves: Will the planned extension of his contract until 2012 be postponed because of the false start?

Rummenigge: "We don't change our opinion after a loss. The contrary even: Already this week we want to extend his contract. And with that be want to show which importance Louis had for FC Bayern."
