wandersfound Author's notes: I developed this idea with the help of
uselessplayback . I wanted to write about the aftermath of the apocalypse--and not just the victory and celebration (of which there is precious little in this fic) but also explore the question of what Dean and Sam and Castiel would end up doing with their suddenly increased life-expectancy. I anticipated a quiet melancholy directionlessness on Dean's part, but what ended up coming out was much bleaker and darker than that.
The word hallelujah occurring in Psalms is a Hebrew request for a congregation to join in praise. It can be translated as "Praise Yah, you people", and is usually worded in English contexts as "Praise ye the Lord" or "Praise the Lord". This is not a direct translation, as Yah represents the first two letters of YHWH, the Hebrew personal name for God, and not the title "lord". To give fuller meaning in this context, Hallelujah could rightly be translated "Praise His Holy Name," (signified by Jah). For most Christians, "Hallelujah" is considered a joyful word of praise to God, rather than an injunction to praise him. --Wikipedia
