There's this meme that's going around. There's also the list of Books I Read In 2009.

I will do them BOTH AT ONCE. Because that is how I roll.

There's also a bit of SPN meta I keep meaning to post and haven't, and a BSG ficlet I keep meaning to post and haven't, but those will be separate.

THE MEME: Ask Me Anything! Taken from all over, ( Read more... )

literature, geekery, memes, fannishness

How smug am I that 1/6 of the new books you read this year were ones I forced upon you?

(Okay, maybe that is only three. BUT STILL.)

I like the idea of keeping track of both new reads and rereads. Maybe I will try to do that myself. *goes to look for a good way to track*

I just keep a text file on my datastick. I figure once I've been doing this for three years running, I'll have a basis for analyzing trends.

I'm impressed that you kept track, and impressed that you made it through Yiddish Policemen which I kept thinking I should manage to read and kept disliking so much I would stop after 20+ pages.

The Yiddish Policemen's Union kind of devastated me. I didn't dislike it at all, but oh god it hurt.

How did you get into filk?

Well, I was primed for an appreciation of filk by a father who tends to randomly break into song at the slightest provocation, frequently a spontaneous insta-parody, and also by early exposure to Tom Lehrer, Allan Sherman, and Weird Al Yankovic.

But as to the culture of filk ... in college, I was exposed to a couple of filk albums by friends: Serious Steel by Leslie Fish and Joe Bethancourt, and Never Set the Cat On Fire and Live! by Frank Hayes, and a mix or two. I was delighted and enthralled, and set about learning as much of it as I could. At my very first convention, Lunacon 1996, I found my way to the filkroom and pretty much never left.

That's so excellent.

Will you be at Conflikt?
