Join BSG Cast Members in Supporting Caleb's Hope
Many BSG cast members and guest stars have thrown their support behind the non-profit organization Caleb’s Hope. Caleb’s Hope is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for vulnerable women and children affected by war, poverty, and HIV/AIDS. Caleb’s Hope helps provide access to improved healthcare, education, and generates innovative job-creation programs. The organization currently has projects in Kenya and Uganda with hopes to expand throughout East Africa and eventually worldwide.
Holly Elissa Dignard (Asha Janik, Demand Peace activist/saboteur in Epiphanies) started Caleb’s Hope not only to raise awareness but to get people from all walks of life involved and engaged in the world around them. I’m writing today about the Nya Campaign. Nya means “daughter” and “plentiful” in Acholi and “purpose” in Kiswahili. The campaign empowers child mothers in Northern Uganda who are survivors of kidnapping, abuse, rape, and torture; many have HIV/AIDS. Here’s how it works. The child mothers make paper beads - truly beautiful, amazing ones. For each created, Caleb's Hope pays them. The beads are then sold, with all the profits going directly back into the program.
This is where the BSG cast members come in. A number of them have been photographed wearing the beads and promoting the campaign and organization. With the permission of Caleb’s Hope, I will post photos for your enjoyment. In return, you support Caleb’s Hope. The website makes it very easy to donate, and any amount is appreciated. You can use a Pay Pal account or your credit card (processed through Pay Pal but no account needed). Please make sure to let Caleb’s Hope know that you made your way there from the BSG fan community.
Everyone - including those not able to donate right now - can Spread the word!. Caleb’s Hope is still a small non-profit relying on grassroots organizing such as this. Tell your friends. Join the facebook. Link to the site in your blog or your signature.
