Oh my god you guys, brilliant idea.

I was just thinking that there is a serious lack of old-school makkeoli houses in the vicinity.

And then I was liek, Maybe I should open a makkeoli house.

And then I was liek, Maybe I should open a fantasy-inspired tea-and-makkeoli house where everyone takes off their shoes (there would be little lockers in ( Read more... )

I think that's an awesome idea, and I think you should look at associate's degrees in host/hostessing. Honestly, I don't think you need to get a full business degree for opening a cafe/restaurant - not that that's an easy thing to do or anything. Plus it would be only 2 years instead of 4.

What Martha said, you definitely don't need a business degree to open a business or even run one --- but it does help to have taken a few classes. If I were you, I'd look into culinary schools instead of going to uber!expensive UI. But! You really just need a wicked business plan and good credit (or a co-signer) to take out a bank loan so you can start this up. Maybe you can also work/internship with a restaurant just to get the sense of what you're getting yourself into. The experience will key you into common problems restaurants get into, costs, licenses needed to open a restaurant, rent, type of staff/supplies you'll need, etc, etc. It might turn out that this just isn't what you want to do, that all this isn't worth it, or.. you may be even more motivated and confident to start this venture.

It's a great idea, but it'll be quite a challenge. Whatever happens, if you truly want to do this, go for it. You can count on me for some free labor for when you start up.

I read part of a book about whose dreams of getting into culinary school were dashed by head trauma ! anosmia. I think it has a happy turn where she says "Fuck this disability shit" and attends one of the best culinary schools evar, but I hadn't gotten there before the book was due back at the ICPL e_e;;

Credit is something I should probably start building, too... Why can't this be as simple and straightforward as Avatar: The Last Airbender led me to believe?!

Am totes keeping this in mind, and will be darkening your doorway some time to collect! >:)~
