.rules.
battleothesexes is a collaboration project between the moderators of shoujo_battle and shounenbattle. The round is run as a 4 week rumble style battle.
basics
► each participant has to pick a character from either a shoujo/josei animanga series or a shounen/seinen animanga series upon signing up. This will be their identity for the entire battle and their usernames won't be revealed. The point of this system is to maintain anonymity of the participants, so they're asked not to reveal it to their friends until after the contest ends/they are eliminated. :)
► upon signing up you will be assigned to a team. If you picked a shoujo/josei character you will be on the shoujo team, if you picked a shounen/seinen character you will be on the shounen team. You may only sign up for one team as participation will be limited to 15 participants per team. [30 total]
► each team will have its own set of ranks - the top three from each team will be crowned the winners for their team. The team that does the best overall will be the winning team in this battle of the sexes.
► showcasing your icons anywhere before the end of the battle is forbidden. If anyone is discovered doing that, they will be disqualified.
► each icon has to fit the LiveJournal requirements - max 40kb and 100x100px, preferably in .png format. (because photobucket compresses .jpg graphics and they end up looking much worse than they were before uploading)
► all icons have to feature shoujo/josei or shounen/seinen animanga based upon which team you signed up for. Other genres and videogames or light novels that weren't made into anime/manga are not allowed. For series that are listed as both shoujo and shounen, the mods will discuss which side it belongs on for the purpose of this round. :) For further clarification, check the MAL and Wikipedia links in the layout sidebar.
► all images used must be official. This can be anime screencaps, manga panels, additional official artwork (ie. trading cards, artbooks, ads, posters, volume covers, etc. etc.) No fan art or doujinshi scans.
► you are allowed to color manga panels yourself for use in the icon. You cannot use unofficial manga colorings by other people without their permission. You must provide a link to a public location where they gave you permission - this can be either a comment to you or a general statement saying that it may be used for icons and other graphics. If it is discovered that you knowingly used someone else's manga coloring without permission you will be penalized.
► each participant must submit to at least one challenge. There will be no eliminations as long as they submit. However, as the sign-up slots are limited - please do not sign-up if you do not intend to participate at least 3 out of the 4 weeks.

► new challenge: Sometime on Saturday after the voting goes up but before the results go up
► challenge deadline: Friday 11:59pm
► voting deadline: 24 hours after the voting post goes up
► round runs June 2nd through July 2nd (subject to change by a day or two)

points
► individual rankings will be based on your total number of points gained from voting minus any negative votes plus any bonus points earned: +2 for voting with required crits*, +5 for voting with required crits plus optional crits up to 1/2 of the icons*, +10 for voting with required crits plus optional crits for all remaining icons*, +3 for People's Choice. Some challenges will have additional chances for bonus points.
* you will only get one of these point values based on how many crits you write. They are not cumulative. These point values are subject to change based on participation, but are unlikely to change.
► team rankings will be based on the average score of all participants on a team's total points for the challenge. This is partly to keep from getting wildly huge scores and partly to balance the points should the teams wind up uneven.
► you will not be eligible for People's Choice if you do not vote. You will not lose any points for not voting, but you will not gain the +3 for People's Choice if you didn't vote, even if your icon has the most votes.

► vote tallies will be shown in the results post next to the number your icon was assigned in the voting post.
► bonus points will appear under your points for the challenge in the ranking post at battlemod.
prizes
► 1st place on each team: custom participation banner
► 2nd place on each team: custom participation banner
