The reason why movie critics have full time jobs is because of films like this. It can be taken on so many levels it needs a small novel just to figure it all out. I'll do my best ( Read more... )

I've always thought that a film or book can tackle an over exposed topic and still be fresh so long as it remembers the individuals involved and their importance over the over-arching idea. Powerful stories always remember the individual, and that's what Everything is Illuminated remembered. It's not about the Holocaust. As you say - it's about people who discover. The author used the Holocaust because that's his heritage, but it could just have easily been about any culture spanning three generations. And an insane dog.

I'm So crushed they didn't work in the phrase "masticates her own tail". They showed it, but didn't say it. I would have thought it would have been a ton easier the other way around. And speaking of Sammy Davis Jr Jr... I also maintain she should have gone with Jonfan. After all, since grandfather didn't need her anymore...! Breaks my heart.

If nothing else, I want a followup of Jonathan getting an insane dog from a shelter and taming it with his mind warping glasses.
