hey, what are your thoughts on the misogyny and racism going on in supernatural? i've read your teenage soapbox blog posts and liked them, and was wondering if you were going to write about supernatural anytime soon, since you seem to be a fan of the series.

Well, the only season I've seen all the way through is the first, but from what I've heard there is A LOT A LOT A LOT of women in refrigerators later on. 8| I guess you could argue that girls in distress and as the targets of killers is just more of the show sticking to horror conventions, but I really don't like it, at the same time. I think the show has done some female characters right (I LOVE MEG TO BITS AND PIECES) but those are mainly antagonists, which is... problematic.
Also, the show would be a thousand times more often if Sam and Dean were girls. (Samantha and Deanna, traveling the country to kick demon ass, anyone?)

As for racism, I honestly can't remember an instance of that in any of the episodes I've seen, except the one about the racist truck or... whatever it was. The main cast is white, though, which on one hand annoys me and on the other, I'm glad they didn't go the Glee route of minorities just there to be minorities who end up overshadowed by the white leads.
