This obviously isn't as serious of an example, but I'm often interested in what happens immediately after I fall down in public. There seems to be a patern in when people help me and when people don't. (I slip and fall a lot.) I studied the Kitty Genovese case in Social Psychology, so I am familiar with what happened.

Oh people.

I think geography might also play a role. At least speaking from experience of just car trouble--no one helped me in the city, but people were much more helpful in the country/ coast.

I really don't think people (strangers) can be trusted to help when needed and both examples prove that.

Meh, people suck. I'm sure those dispatchers will be haunted for a long time though. I feel a lot more apt to forgive them than the people who let some girl get stabbed and raped.
