Nooooo! This very much fits in the Gotham Central canon and mood, thought - the cops lived dangerous lives and died small, tragic deaths.

I may or may not have, (but deinitely did) get a little choked up while I wrote it. Saaaad. Thanks, I'm glad you thought it was a good fit!

Aww, *sniffle* I always have liked Renee. And Harvey would totally lose it if she got killed in front of him like that. I love the way this explores that possibility though, and it really shows Bruce's social awkwardness especially among the mourning. I don't think he ever quite got that down.

Very awesome piece!

Renee is probably currently my favorte character in the DCU. I always wondered how Batman would deal with losing her, and wow, this was really hard to write!

Thank you for commenting, and I'm glad it came off as realistic for you!

Liked this a lot--I think you covered a lot of material in only a few hundred words.

I agree with the comment that you covered a lot in a short fic - but it didn't feel overly rushed, so kudos for that! It was a good use of the brief wordcount to come in at the funeral and look back rather than working through it chronologically. And a poignant topic, with poor Montoya becoming another casualty guilty of not much more than living in Gotham - and Bruce as usual shouldering the guilt of another life lost. Good - if tragic - stuff!
