Very nicely done. You nailed the balance of humour and horror perfectly.

And: The old hands on the security teams would joke with new guys that they hadn’t lived until they’d heard an all-lunatic version of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.

Lol!

Thanks for sharing:)

Thank you very much for the lovely comment! The Lady Gaga bit was one of the first lines that popped into my head and amused me, so the rest pretty much worked it's way forward and back from there. I find bizarre mental images are always a good starting point!

Gotta admit this creeped me the hell out until the mention of Scarecrow! Reminiscent of Stephen King's short story "1408."

stacking their heads up by their mailbox.

Dude is really crazy for thinking Arkham would be relaxing. Just reading this reinforced to me how awful a place it is!

Interesting no one has put together that Scarecrow may be involved, or no one has looked more closely at the room and vents or anything. Pretty shabby that so many people have killed themselves in different ways! Gotta get on that, Arkham!

Nice story!

I needed a nice mental image for the axe-crazy events and heads out on the front lawn seemed like a good one! *ghoulish*

I've read some of SK's short stories (Different Seasons, most of Nightmares and Dreamscapes) but not all of them - have to look into 1408. Very nice for some semi-horror to be compared to his work though, thanks!

The staff view is probably that patients offing themselves eases overcrowding... until the lawsuits from family members start!
