This? Was amazing. I like how in so few words you were able to breathe life into both Jonathan and Gotham City. Really well done.

I really liked this, very evocative visual language and you managed to pack all that plus plotness into the 500 words!

The lines comparing the knowledge of the chemical reactions to the understanding roomful of ticking clocks = love.

(Is this your first entry on this comm? Sorry if it's not - I'm not very observant - but I just don't recall seeing your name before. If it is then welcome and keep up the excellent entries!)

Thanks so much! Admittedly the 'watches' bit was partially inspired by (get ready for itttt) Watchmen.

(This is indeed my first entry. :3 Thank you for the welcome!)

Watching and reading Watchmen is still on my to-do list, so I would have missed that if you hadn't said! The image did remind me a bit of Sylar in Heroes as well, which I don't know if you've seen, but repairing clocks and, um, really "getting into" brains was quite his thing.

Anyway I hope you'll enjoy it here! :D

The Watchmen reference comes from the character of Doctor Manhattan - his father was a watchmaker, but now, as a bona fide super hero, he now has a completely amazing concept of time, where he can look forward and back. I just had him passing through my brain when I wrote this piece. I highly recommend giving the comic a read, but of course I'm sure most people tell you that. ;)

And thanks, I think I will! Mmm batfic is nice.

This piece has a well-established moody atmosphere to it. You did a great job painting not only a picture but a feeling with your imagery. The heat of the city, Jonathan's psychosis, it was all palpable. I did get a slight Watchmen vibe from it; reminded of Rorschach and his psychiatrist. I like that you end with the feeling that Scarecrow is going to get out and wreak havoc on Gotham once again. Welcome to the community, and thanks for sharing! :)
