I am very much a believer in live and let live. A person has the right to do what they will as long their actions and decisions do not invade on the same rights and liberties of someone else.

Since I watched 'Judgment at Nuremberg' yesterday, I guess I am overly sensitive to the subject! :)
I am German/Scot/Irish (with a little Welsh) descent.... I took German in High School and College. When my Grandmother found out she was devastated.... why would anyone want to speak that horrible language. Obviously the wounds were still painful for her.
And people thing Bush is a fundamentalist! How easy would it be for a disgruntled America, especially as this generation of youth, who are further disconnected from the events of WWII, grow into voting age, to fall into a similar path? Some individuals are beginning to teach that it did not happen!!! When I was a Paramedic, I ran on patients that bore the identification tattoos on their arms.... I can assure anyone that those people, who are mostly deceased now, existed!!!
Just sends shivers down my spine.....
On a lighter note, isn't the snow pretty! Are you getting to play hookie today?

DID exist. I started having the sweats when they named the Dept of Homeland Security. The wording made me think uncomfortably of der Geheimes Staats Polizei (GESTAPO).
I really do fear the chance that Fascism might take over here.
Use of fear and demonizing certain groups and the trading Freedom for the Illusion of Security.

:) You and me both, sister!! FEMA is not a sector to be taken lightly either.
My question, is how many average citizens are actually aware?? Do people even care anymore? What can the average, intelligent, and educated citizen do? I have always said that the truth lays somewhere in the middle. I believe that the solution, likewise, lays in the middle between liberalism and fundamentalism.
Radical liberalism has the possibility of a ricochet effect to extreme fundamentalism. If you hit an already burdened population with taxes that do not seem to benefit the majority, then the very best of intentions will result in citizenry revolt to the 'other side'. Just like now, fundamentalism has gotten old, and the revolt moves to the other extreme.
The minority, the moderates on both sides, need to step up into a leadership role. Extremism, by it's very nature, will never be a long-term viable option. Extreme only begets extreme!
By the way, Thank you for your candor and input. I appreciate the dialog. It is refreshing!
