Senor Bassinyerface,

I've loved merenhouse and merenrap since I first heard the stuff in Central America back in '99. When I finally made it to NYC to hunt for the stuff in 2002 it was considered dead. All the kids in the Barrio had moved on to reggaeton and bachata, and the merenhouse sound of Cutting Records, and groups like Fulanito and Sancocho, was considered over and done with. I've always known it would make a comeback, interests being cyclical, but have been waiting for the new artists to take it forward.

I've been forcing a lot more of it into my sets lately, despite the ease with which the merengue clears gringo dance floors. I've been trying to acclimate the crowds.

Look who messaged me recently:

I find merengue has a lot of haters, but I love the stuff. Glad you are enjoying it as well.
