This actually is set more than two thousand years before Harper's birth, during the height of the Commonwealth. It's several hundred years before Nietzscheans were even invented, actually; I was susprised to see how late in the game they arose. (Dates courtesy of this invaluable timeline.)
I was tempted to set it closer to Andromeda-the-series, but... 1. that wasn't really my point and 2. it gets a lot more complicated, because how *would* everyone react to the fall and the Magog and everything going to hell? It might be interesting, but then the story is suddenly 700 pages long and people start to die.
...I think Methos would convert himself Nietzschean, at least cosmetically, though.
Ahh, gotcha. I should have guessed, considering there were no references to bad things. But it was late and I was all aflutter with the Richie-ness of the story. :-)
...I think Methos would convert himself Nietzschean, at least cosmetically, though.
I think it'd be difficult for him to pull off with other Nietzscheans, because he'd have no parents or pride to name, and he'd have no children, no matter how many wives he took. And if other Nietzscheans are like, who the hell are you and why are you pretending to be Nietzschean--well, I think the disguise wouldn't last very long.
But, ahem, you need to stop being telepathically linked to my brain, because I'll have you know that Rhade has been calling Methos "Grandfather" for the last several weeks. *G*
Don't worry, Bas. Richie was "killed" due to the machinations of a demon abel to impersonate anybody *and* bring people back from the dead. Comic books ressurect people on a monthly basis with less evidence.
Don't suppose you're going to do more with this future you're created?

Might. Not right now, though, since I already have one epic on my table. I could feel this story trying to explode on me and I stapled it together at the seams.
This is great! Though now I'm wondering what they all are going to do the two thousand or so (Commonwealth) years later when the Commonwealth falls. Also, Perseids are cool, and I really like the idea that the scans show Immortals as a different species from humans.
*twitch* I'm wondering that too. Duncan would *hate* seeing Earth (or any other planet, really) enslaved, and he would also hate seeing the Great Devourers sweeping down across the galaxy. I could see him as High Guard (since he's been in various armies and in the British CIA trying to take down Hitler in WWII) *or* as head of a guerilla army against the Nietzscheans (picture lots of long, agonizingly honorable speeches when he gets captured). Meanwhile Methos would be tucked away somewhere safe, telling him that empires rise and fall and the barbarians *always* eat you in the end, but secretly sending money and
*stops*
*shoots self in the head*
But I'm already writing one epic.
Perseids are a riot. And Immortals would have to turn up as different from Human, I should think, since they *are*. I do wish they had gone into the cellular differences a little more on the show, not just the blue-lightning differences.
I don't have much clue about HL, but from what I heard (that there are demons and such things in that universe) I had always assumed the immortals' differences to be more mystical. However I like SF explanations.
And surely you could always fit one more epic into your schedule, no? ;-) I'm sure it would turn out to be a really cool one. *nudge, nudge*
Well... yes, it is fairly mystical, but they never really say. The Quickening is physical electricity--it shorts out electronics. You can go either way. In the Monster, actually, I've gone with a more mystical/magical approach.
and... actually, I can only really focus on one story at a time. This was one night's work (I can't figure out a certain scene in the other story part I'm working on and I got distracted by poor sweet Richie). All I can say is "maybe later."

*jaw drops*
This is so cool.
I love far future HL stories, and mixing that that with Andromeda...! I am speechless with squee. *is speechless*
*regains power of speech* You have such a deft hand with worldbuilding. All of your stories feel so real, like these things are actually happening, only the width of a universe away.
Imagine how pissed off the Nietzscheans would be to know they'd been trumped before their race was even created. :)
(BTW, I just read "Waters of Life and Death," and it was fascinating. At some point I should overcome my procrastinatory tendencies and send you feedback.)

I just have a really big telescope.
(Avoiding one obvious joke, I shall promptly make a different obvious joke.)
So you peep on the private lives of people in other universes? Stalker! *g*

*points* you just did!
I mean real feedback. With the quoting of favorite lines, and the thematic analysis, and... okay, I'm a feedback perfectionist. Which is why I don't send enough of it. *sheepish*

Great job! I was hoping for a Harper run in, but anything with Richie in it is good with me! :-)

If you write more in this universe, happiness would occur. I can pretty much guarantee it.

I watch despite him. Watched, anyway... he seems bound and determined to run the show into the ground.
More of this story... um... see me next year.
