As much as I hate Bud Selig, and as much as baseball shudders under the immense scandals that have happened on his watch and, as far as exposure, baseball is no longer the most popular team sport in America, baseball is pretty damn far from dying and, by all accounts, is at the beginning of a major upswing. Park attendance is at all-time highs, revenues are at all-time highs, parity, whether you choose to believe it or not, is more prevalent than it was ten years ago, and labor and management have practically never had as good a relationship as they have right now. Baseball is quite healthy and getting stronger every season. Note that I would absolutely like to ascribe as little of this as possible to Selig.
I do hate that there's virtually no way of denying that the biggest accomplishment of the Selig era -- how famously management and labor is getting along -- is mostly due to Selig.
